Students can access short-term counselling at both our Bayview and Pasco campuses with our Wellbeing Team which includes school-based specialists; Mental Health Practitioner, Student Wellbeing Coordinator, Student Health and Wellbeing Coordinator and Youth Worker.
Student Wellbeing Services are provided by professional staff with qualifications and expertise specific to the area of wellbeing and service may include a range of group-based and individual support, student capacity building and the provision of specialised services.
Student Wellbeing Coordinator (SWC)
The Student Wellbeing Coordinator (SWC) supports the wellbeing of the students in the school community. Our SWC are available to help students and their parents/carers with any educational, family or personal issues and can help students and families to access a wide variety of community resources.
Mental Health Practitioner
Our Mental Health practitioners provide an additional resource to the student engagement and wellbeing team. They work flexibility and their work is focused on the needs and priorities of individual students who need extra support. Their work includes:
Contributing to whole-school approaches to mental health prevention and promotion
Provision of direct counselling support to students and other early intervention services
Coordination of supports for students with more complex needs
Mental Health practitioners provide short term intervention for students with mild to moderate mental health needs and liase with relevant internal and external services when students need more intensive support.
Health and Wellbeing Coordinator
The Health and Wellbeing coordinator works across the two campuses, offering wellbeing support and health education. This may be with individual students, groups or cohorts. For example working collaboratively with Year Level Coordinators in the development and delivery of drug and sexual education.
Youth Worker
Our Youth Worker, Alannah Meilak (photo coming soon) works flexibly across both campuses focusing on the needs and priorities of students who may be experiencing a wide range of life experiences such as school refusal, disengagement or at risk and wellbeing.
The entire team works closely with parents, staff, external practitioners and community organisations to support students. In situations where regular or longer-term counselling is required, students and families can be supported to access external services.
If your child is having difficulties or concerns at school, please contact your child’s homegroup teacher or appropriate Year Level Coordinator. They may make a student referral to the SEWT where discussions with the student Wellbeing Coordinator and Mental Health Practitioners will take place.
To access support outside of school, GPs can make referrals to psychologists under Medicare’s Better Access to Mental Health scheme.
