Art & Design Year 7,8 & 9
The Visual Arts at Williamstown High School Middle Years Campus fosters a program of developing the creative potential of the whole student.
The Visual Arts is a building block of experiencing a range of materials, skills, appreciation, and knowledge about Art & Design. Students will have access to a range of drawing materials and build on their creative development and visual literacy, through the design process in their Visual Diary and Visual Diary text book.
Drawing is the essence of where artistic development begins and students will be encouraged to develop their ideas through drawing challenges using a range of materials and ideas. Sensitivity, fine motor skills, and patience are important in the development of an art piece and these thinking processes are all part of developing the unique work of each student as a creative whole.
Students in the 21st Century need to be highly creative thinkers, visually adept, computer design literate and be able to apply the connections of many aspects of their learning.
Art and Design have a powerful impact on self-esteem and their social development. Each student has the ability to thrive and is encouraged to engage in extra curricula art programs to enhance their creative interests.
The Arts team offer Art Club which runs once a week at lunchtime and a new program for high achievers, The Young Researchers Art Program. We also encourage students to participate in any art competitions and external art programs that will enhance their learning
