Happy IDAHOBIT Day!
Today we are celebrating IDAHOBIT Day (the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia). If the name of the day is not enough reason to understand why we are celebrating it, at least 75% of LGBTQI+ Youth experience some form of discrimination and at least 25% also experience depression. Regardless of our genders and sexualities, it is important that we band together to support one another to ensure nobody is made to feel bad just for being who they are. Also, diversity is a great thing – today’s a great day to unit in celebrating our differences!
AT RECESS, we held a RAINBOW flag raising ceremony by the canteen to officially open the day’s celebrations. AT LUNCHTIME, we took a RAINBOW photo outside the library, we had RAINBOW chalk pledges for actions we will do to celebrate diversity and make our community as inclusive as possible. There was a badge maker station by the library to make RAINBOW badges to further show your support for diversity and inclusivity, as well as your zero tolerance for any sort of discrimination, however subtle or overt.
All proceeds from today’s uniform free day are going to Minus 18 – an organisation that supports and empowers LGBTQI+ youth and tackles discrimination in the community.
Please get involved to celebrate and support the diversity in our staff and students, and make our school as inclusive and positive a place as it can be!
